As we begin 2023, we want to take a moment to celebrate those around us who have been doing excellent work as champions of sustainability over the last year.
We recently have had the privilege of working with IJM Corporation Berhad, who have come onboard the G17Eco platform to assist with their sustainability reporting journey. IJM holds a leading position in construction, industry, property, and infrastructure with locations across Malaysia, India, and Singapore to name a few. They have been doing some amazing work in their own sustainability journey, integrating sustainable practices into their ways of doing business. IJM has established four pillars of sustainability: marketplace, environment, workplace, and community. With these in mind, IJM seeks to ‘protect and nurture the environment, to be a positive strength in our communities, and to ensure our workplace are safe, respectful and empowering’. Their approach and commitment to ensuring that all these areas are protected and utilised in a sustainable way is clear to see.
IJM’s sustainability efforts have also been recognised more widely as they recently attended a Sustainability Celebration Award Night. Hosted by the United Nation Global Compact Malaysia and Brunei, a local network of the United Nations Global Compact dedicated ‘to mobilise a global movement of sustainable companies’, IJM joined many other corporates and SMEs to celebrate sustainability practitioners and contributions made this year. The awards are designed to highlight the work that is already being done across the globe to move towards sustainability and to ‘awaken, activate and accelerate’ businesses to be even more ‘sustainable and profitable’.
Indeed, the practice of combining sustainability and profitability lies at the heart of WWG’s philosophy. Our CEO, Manjula Lee, recently spoke at the Singapore Fintech Festival on the need for sustainability and highlighted that, now more than ever, we need to encourage businesses that ‘it's more prosperous to be sustainable than it is to not be’. It is great to see that this narrative is being driven and that more and more companies are being celebrated for doing just this.
On this night, IJM were awarded the ‘Partnership for the Goals Recognition’ award. What a fantastic honour and we too celebrate IJM for representing so well what partnership looks like. Their approach to sustainability beautifully upholds SDG 17, Partnership for the Goals, as their business practices seek to target a more holistic approach to sustainability, instead of just one area. A very well-deserved award!
For IJM to win the Partnership award is incredibly meaningful to us at WWG. One of our core tenants is having a holistic approach to sustainability. This means that true sustainability can be reached when seeking to address every area and working together to do so.
We are so thrilled about our partnership with IJM and want to take this moment to congratulate IJM for the incredible work that they have done already. We look forward to where this journey will take us in the new year and beyond.
